Tatooine: The name "Tatooine" was inspired by the real-life town of Tataouine in Tunisia, where parts of the desert scenes were filmed. However, no actual filming occurred in Tataouine itself—nearby locations like Matmata were used instead.
Endor: The name "Endor" comes from biblical references, specifically the "Witch of Endor" in the Old Testament, but its forest moon's lush appearance was inspired by the redwood forests of Northern California, where the scenes were filmed.
Naboo: The underwater city of Otoh Gunga on Naboo was inspired by bubble-like structures and bioluminescence, reflecting the planet’s theme of harmony between technology and nature.
Hoth: Filming for Hoth’s icy terrain took place in Finse, Norway, where the production team worked through a real blizzard for authenticity, even shooting some scenes just outside the door of their snowed-in hotel.
