The character's iconic Scottish accent wasn't originally planned! Myers initially recorded Shrek's lines in a typical American accent but later decided to re-record everything with a Scottish twist, inspired by his Scottish heritage. This change added a unique charm to Shrek's personality, and production loved it so much that they stuck with it—even though re-recording the lines added extra cost to production. This Scottish accent has since become a defining feature of Shrek's character.
