The Gate of Moria, also known as the Doors of Durin, is a masterwork of Dwarven and Elven craftsmanship, symbolizing the once-strong friendship between the two races. The doors are crafted from ithildin, a magical substance that glows in the moonlight and starlight, revealing an inscription written in Elvish. This inscription provides a riddle that must be solved to open the doors: “Speak, friend, and enter.” Despite its beautiful design, the gate also served a defensive purpose, blending seamlessly into the rock when closed to protect Moria from intruders. The gate’s beauty and hidden complexity capture the deep, ancient magic of Middle-earth and the long-lost alliance between the Dwarves of Khazad-dûm and the Elves of Eregion.
